If you’ve been following along with me then you’ve seen the two appetizers I made using egg roll wrappers: Steak and Cheese Egg Rolls and Leftover Corned Beef and Cabbage Egg Rolls. I’m so happy I decided to make a 3rd one! These Spicy Buffalo Chicken Dip Egg Rolls are so awesome! I’m a huge fan of Buffalo chicken dip and of course I love traditional Buffalo wings! Can’t get enough!
My husband and I differ on this. He has yet to find a buffalo chicken dip he likes. Though, he is a huge fan of traditional Buffalo wings, he doesn’t go for any of that blue cheese crap (paraphrasing)! He thinks the dips are always too creamy and not spicy enough. OK, I can see it from his perspective, but I happen to like that blue cheese crap and the creaminess of the dip. I will agree with him, however, that most dips aren’t spicy enough.
So, I wanted to try and make these spicy and this is what I used:
- 1/2 a block of cream cheese (4oz)
- 2 types of hot sauce: Frank’s Red Hot (1/2 cup) and Tapatío Hot Sauce (¼ cup)
- 1 large poached and shredded chicken breast.
- 8 egg roll wrappers
*Optional* Blue cheese dressing as a dipping sauce.
To make these I followed the same procedure as explained in my other egg roll appetizers (See links above).
The Verdict: Spiciness achieved! Had my nose running! (TMI?) It was even approved by my husband, though he still would’ve rather had a plate of actual wings! Even with the heat he just didn’t like the creaminess that the cream cheese provides. I thought it was perfect and that’s what matters! hehe!
Changes and Ideas for the Future: I guess I could shred up some Buffalo wings, drown them in atomic/hell fire sauce and put that inside an egg roll wrapper and maybe my husband will love them! LOL! No, these are great! Obviously you can tailor the spice to your liking and even add some blue cheese or mozzarella cheese into the filling. Like I said in my previous posts about egg roll wrappers, you can pretty much stuff them with anything!
